River Centre Gallery Announces September Artist Show

Sylvania, OH – The River Centre Gallery is getting fired up this Labor Day weekend beginning with showcasing Award-winning, glassblowing artist Matthew Paskiet of Holland, Ohio. Paskiet, owner of Firenation Glass Studio and Gallery, will exhibit his “ColourFall” exquisite pieces at an open reception on Friday, Sept. 1 from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m., during the Red Bird Art District Art Walk. The “ColourFall” show will run from Sept. 1 – Oct. 17, 2017. Feature pieces will include Banded Baskets, Living Bowls, Gator Skin, Jellyfish and Suspended Animation. In additional to his exhibit, Paskiet will also bring Firenation’s Mobile Hot Shop where he will be giving live glassblowing demonstrations.

Paskiet is a native to The Glass City, Toledo, Ohio. He currently resides in Holland, Ohio with his wife and two kids. He began his study of glassblowing at The Toledo Museum of Art in 1993 and the continued his studies at Pilchuck Glass School in Washington state in 1998, as well as, Fundacio Centre del Vidre in Barcelona in 2001. Paskiet also refined his skills by assisting Chihuly’s Boathouse Studio team in 1999-00 and multiple esteemed glass artists throughout that time. He later returned to Toledo and opened Firenation in Holland in 2002, where he has been blowing glass locally ever since. Firenation celebrated 15 years in June 2017.

In 2017 alone, Paskiet has had his work displayed in more than 15 exhibits throughout the nation, including the Ohio Arts Council where he was named the 2017 Spotlight: Featured 3-D Artist at the Ohio Governor’s Residence in Columbus. He has earned name prestigious awards including “2016 Best in Glass,” Zanesville Museum of Art, 72nd Ohio Annual Exhibition; and a three-time winner of the Dominick Labino Award - twice as the Ohio Designer Craftsman, Columbus, Ohio, and once at the Toledo Museum of Art.

“I see the artist as creator. We take raw material and transform it into objects that hold aesthetic significance, creating beauty from virtually nothing. Despite my critical eye, a sense of wonder emerges every time I cast my first gaze upon a finished piece. The object I hold in my hand today was nothing more than an idea and a pool of molten liquid yesterday,” Paskiet explains.

In addition, to the exhibit and demonstration, River Centre Gallery will feature “Blow and Brew” craft beers during the Red Bird District Art Walk. To end the “Let’s Get Fired Up” weekend, River Centre Gallery will host a fundraiser at 1000 Degrees Neapolitan Pizza at 5380 Monroe Street, on Tuesday, Sept. 5 from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. Gallery visitors are invited to eat at the fast, casual pizzeria and 15% of all orders will benefit the Gallery’s mission of raising awareness and funds for eating disorders. Supporters must present a “Let’s Get Fired Up” promotional card physically or electronically at the cash register. Cards can be picked up at River Centre Gallery, 5679 Main Street, Sylvania, or by emailing galleryrivercentre@gmail.com

River Centre Gallery is owned by the River Center Foundation, a charitable organization associated with the River Centre Clinic. All three entities, the Foundation, the Gallery, and the Clinic, embrace the mission of raising awareness for eating disorders. For more information, visit www.rivercentregallery.com
