NAMI Wood County Calls on Everyone to Get Into Mental Health
Mental Illness Awareness Week is Oct. 1–7, 2017. Each year, the first full week of October provides an opportunity to fight stigma, provide support, educate the public and advocate for equal care.
One in five adults experiences mental illness problems every year, and 50% of chronic mental illness begins by age 14. Although many people today understand that mental illness is a medical condition, individuals and families affected by mental illness are still often subjected to stigma and discrimination.
This year, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is calling on everyone to get “Into Mental Health” and replace stigma with hope.
Follow NAMI Wood County on Facebook for great material on being Inspired, Informed and Involved locally!
Part of Mental Illness Awareness Week, National Depression Screening Day is Thursday Oct. 5. Take this anonymous questionnair that can help identify potential signs of depression www.mentalhealthscreening.org/programs/ndsd.
“We are calling on everyone to join NAMI and replace stigma with hope by pledging to be #StigmaFree,” said Terra Davenport, Director of Programs at NAMI Wood County

The Southview Band Boosters is holding TWO fundraisers on Saturday, October 7, 2017. The proceeds from both fundraisers will go towards new uniforms for our marching band. Our current jackets are over 25 years old, and are falling apart. We are seeking funds to replace these.  Also, we need an additional 40 hats next year due to the growing size of our band.
Our first fundraiser is a job fair. We are inviting anyone in the community who needs a job to come and participate.  We have many varied employers lined up to be at our event - ready to hire! Currently, our list includes Visiting Angels, Promedica, McDonald's, Buffalo Wild Wings, Maui Whitening & Spa, Renhill Staffing, Chick-Fil-A, Great Clips, and the US Army.  Bring a few copies of your resume, and dress for an interview.  If you are an employer who would like to participate in the job fair, please contact Mike at president@southviewband.com for more details.
Our other fundraiser is a Lincoln Driven to Give event. Brondes is bringing several Lincoln models for you to test drive. Work with our volunteers to fill out your form, and we get $20 for every test drive, up to 300. There is no pressure to buy!
The fundraisers will take place from 9AM - 3PM at Southview High School - 7225 W. Sylvania Avenue, Sylvania, OH. Thank you for supporting the Southview Band.
