MAUMEE, Ohio (WTVG) – The spring season was canceled and hopes and dreams of one final season in a high school uniform were eliminated for teams all across the country. Within the Northern Lakes League, it was especially hard because Springfield and Maumee each had six seniors.

Maumee coach Brian Jones and Springfield coach Rob Gwozdz wanted to do something to create a lasting image in their players minds of what a true senior night should look like and Tuesday night they pulled it off.

The two teams played one final senior night game at Rolf Park.

Here’s what several players and the two coaches said about the event:

Taylor Turner – “I wish the season would have happened but this was all it could have been and more.”

Emersyn Haney – “Everyone was glad to be here and everyone put their hearts on out there.”

Rob Gwozdz – “Just to coach those seniors one last time was a dream come true and you can tell what kind of a special group we have here.”

Alyssa Ellis – “It was honestly really emotional because this is an end of an era for me since I’ve been playing for so long. It was nice.”

Jessica Perrault– “Knowing this was my last game with the Maumee Panthers it was surreal. I’ve been playing forever with these girls.”

Brian Jones – “It was very satisfying. I could have cared less what the score was, just seeing the girls out there playing the game they love. After the game I took the seniors out there and I bawled. I’m going to miss them to death and just to have them play their actual last game on their terms and not somebody else’s terms.”
