TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - Just a few months ago, baseball games at Fifth Third Field commenced in front of a limited number of seats due to COVID-19 restrictions. But this week, the ballpark is open to full capacity, with all tickets available.

Suites, boxes, and large parties are now free to book games as well, and the marketing team at the Toledo Mud Hens says bars, restaurants, and concession stands that remained closed will also start to open back up as crowds head to the field.

The season started with 3,000 seats available per game, but pre-COVID, the games typically would be sold out before the start of the season between season ticket holders and pre-sold tickets.

“It’s going to take us a little bit of time to build back up to those 9,000, 10,000, 11,000 person crowds that people are used to seeing, but all seats are available now,” explains Mike Keedy, Director of Strategic Planning & Projects. “All parts of the ballpark are available now, so come out and support the team and be a part of the resurgence. We’re really happy about it.”

Since the team was playing to empty audiences, Keedy says they were excited for just that first wave of the 30% crowd, so the team couldn’t be more thrilled getting back to full capacity.

The ballpark is also prepared to handle the heat waves.

“We’re happy it’s summer, we’re happy it’s warming up,” Keedy said. “We’re well prepared for it. We do have our first aid station right behind home plate that’s open every single game. We’ll be able to attend to anybody that needs water or anything to keep them comfortable. We have a lot of shade on the main concourse throughout the ballpark. We have air-conditioned locations like the Swamp Shop and the suite level, we’ll do our best to keep everyone comfortable at all times.”
