Case Files: Police looking for suspects in Scottie Hopings murder
Hopings was shot and killed in the parking lot of Andrea’s Sports Pub in Toledo
TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - One year ago, Scottie Hopings was shot and killed outside of a West Toledo bar. Now, investigators are releasing new information linked to the case with the hopes that someone who witnessed the crime will come forward.
Toledo Police say Scottie Hopings was a regular at Andrea’s Sports Pub on W. Alexis. On the evening of April 7, 2021, Hopings girlfriend said he was running some errands and stopped for a drink. According to police, there was an argument inside of the bar, things escalated onto the patio and then spilled into the parking lot.
Hopings was shot 11 times. For months, detectives remained tiight-lipped about the case. Now detectives are releasing new information about the murder, saying social media posts are leading them in the right direction.
“There were several social media videos that show Scottie Hopings and a few other people involved in a physical altercation on the patio of the bar. There are 3 people we can confirm witnessed this crime and potentially a dozen or so others...what we are hoping is they come forward,” says Detective Rico Holland with Toledo Police.
Somica Alexander was pregnant with Scottie’s child the night he was murdered. A year later, she is still searching for answers.
“In a matter of a split second I went from preparing for a baby shower to preparing for a funeral,” says Alexander.
She describes Hopings as someone who was soft spoken and didn’t seek out confrontation. He leaves behind a total of five children.
