Steve Slivka joined 13abc in July 2011, but this is not his first time at the station.
The South Toledo native job shadowed with Rob Powers at 13abc when Steve was a senior at St. John's Jesuit High School and Steve later interned in the sports department for two summers while attending Indiana University.
After returning to Toledo, Steve shared in Best Sports Operation awards presented by the Ohio AP Broadcasters from 2011 to 2014 after which the group renamed the category to Best Sportscast. Steve shared in this new award in 2015. The Lower Great Lakes Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences presented Steve with a Sportscast Emmy for his role in the 2015 Football Friday Season Premiere.
Steve joined 13abc after spending four years and four months working at KOAM-TV and KFJX-TV in Joplin, Mo./Pittsburg, Kan. He spent the first two years as the weekend sports anchor at the stations before becoming the sports director. Steve's work on KFJX's 30-minute high school football show - the FOX 14 Pressbox - received awards from the Missouri Broadcasters Association and the Kansas Association of Broadcasters for best small television market sports.
Following Steve's graduation from Indiana University with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and a minor in Kinesiology, he spent the fall working as a runner for ABC Sports and ESPN on college football broadcasts. He also worked as a runner for the NASCAR Media Group and DirecTV at the 2007 Daytona 500.
When Steve is not busy driving the station fleet vehicle around Ohio or Michigan, he is running nearly every day on the road or in the park. Since 2017, Steve finished three marathons including the 2017 Glass City Marathon and the 2019 Boston Marathon.
