Tony Geftos

Tony Geftos is a 2-time Emmy award-winning journalist and former president of the Ohio Associated Press Media Editors (2018-19).

Tony started at WTVG-TV in June of 2000. He heads up The Restaurant Report Card, seen every Thursday during the evening news.

Tony also anchors Toledo’s only one-hour Noon Newscast on Thursdays and Fridays and co-anchors 13abc Action News Weekend Mornings. You can catch him alongside McKenzie Kuehnlein every Saturday and Sunday from 6:00-8:00 AM and again from 9:00-10:00AM.

Additionally, Tony is an adjunct instructor at The University of Toledo, teaching Television Production, Writing for Media, and Public Presentations.

In his spare time, Tony enjoys playing alto saxophone in the Polish American Concert Band, serving as an M.C. for various fundraisers and spending time with his wife and two children.

Tony graduated from Riverview Community High School roughly 40 minutes north of Toledo in downriver Detroit. He's a proud alumnus of Western Michigan University, where he was a four-year member of the Bronco Marching Band and part of the radio evolution at 89.1 FM WIDR, Kalamazoo.

Prior to working in Toledo, Tony was an interpretive ranger at the Silent City of Rocks National Reserve in Idaho, where he contributed to the Times-News in Twin Falls, ID. He transitioned to television as a reporter at KGWC-TV in Casper, WY, where he met his wife while playing opposite leads in a Stage III Community Theatre production of “I Hate Hamlet.” His second broadcasting job was at KKFX-TV in Santa Barbara, CA.

Tony recently published two children’s books based on his experience of enduring adult chickenpox on Valentine’s Day. “The Heart-Shaped Pox” and “A Plague of Heart-Shaped Pox” were illustrated by local cartoonist Don Lee.
