Tony Geftos

Tony Geftos is a 4x regional Emmy award winner, most recently recognized in June 2023 for his work as a Multi-Media Journalist on the weekly segment Dine in the 419.

Tony started at WTVG-TV in June of 2000. He co-anchors Action News at 4 PM with Christina Williams and Claire Mitchell. You can also catch Tony reporting for weekday newscasts as an MMJ during 13 Action News at 5 PM, 6 PM, and 11 PM.

As a licensed drone pilot, an adjunct instructor at The University of Toledo, and a former president of the Ohio Associated Press Media Editors (2018-19), Tony tries to keep busy. Outside of work, he plays alto saxophone in the Polish American Concert Band, serves as an M.C. for various fundraisers, and enjoys everyday adventures with his wife and two children.

Tony graduated from Riverview Community High School roughly 40 minutes north of Toledo in downriver Detroit. He's a proud alumnus of Western Michigan University, where he was a four-year member of the Bronco Marching Band and part of the radio evolution at 89.1 FM WIDR, Kalamazoo.

Prior to working in Toledo, Tony was an interpretive ranger at the Silent City of Rocks National Reserve in Idaho, where he contributed to the Times-News in Twin Falls, ID. He transitioned to television as a reporter at KGWC-TV in Casper, WY, where he met his wife while playing opposite leads in a Stage III Community Theatre production of “I Hate Hamlet.” His second broadcasting job was at KKFX-TV in Santa Barbara, CA.

In 2019, Tony published two children’s books based on his experience of enduring chickenpox on Valentine’s Day. “The Heart-Shaped Pox” and “A Plague of Heart-Shaped Pox” were illustrated by local cartoonist Don Lee.
