TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - The City of Toledo has issued a boil water advisory Tuesday which affects 747 households. The advisory affects anyone within the area from Florence Ave and East Broadway Street to Oak Street, Oak Street from Florence Ave to the railroad, and East Broadway Street from Florence Ave to the Railroad.
Water service for residents in that area will be interrupted Tuesday due to repairs to the system and residents are asked to boil any water used for consumption until 5 PM Wednesday, unless instructed otherwise by city officials.
In order to comply with the advisory all water must be brought to a boil for at least three minutes, then left to cool before using. Boiled water should then be used for drinking, ice making, teeth brushing, dish washing, and all food preparation.
Residents are also warned of the following safety concerns:
- If you have lesions or open surgical incisions, all tap water should be boiled as described above before being used for bathing, as well as for personal consumption.
- The water may be used without boiling for washing clothes and flushing toilets. It may also be used for bathing if you do not have any of the above conditions.
- People with compromised immune systems should contact their doctor for additional instructions.
- When the water is turned back on, you may experience air and/or rust in your tap water. This is normal. Please run each of your cold-water faucets until the water clears up. Avoid washing clothes or using your hot water taps until you have done so.
