TOLEDO, Ohio (13abc Action News) - The University of Toledo has decided to end its Marching Band scholarship. The university wants to phase it out and its not sitting well with marching band members.
A UT spokesperson sent this statement to 13abc, "The University of Toledo is phasing out its current scholarship program for the Rocket Marching Band that has succeeded in its goal to grow the size of the band. The University is currently working to develop a new scholarship model that will be used to recruit and retain band members once the existing program is phased out over the next three years."
Band Members fear without the $1,000 scholarship the band will shrink and members will be forced to hold down jobs to pay for their books and tuition. Before the scholarship, there were 145 members now there are 250 band members.
