11-year-old robbed of bike at knife-point

TOLEDO, Ohio (13abc Action News) - Sylvester Rivers lives in the neighborhood near Highland Park.

What police say happened here, at the corner of Shasta and Finch, stopped Rivers in his tracks.

"Aw, that's pretty crazy," says Rivers, "especially over here, because this is the whole neighborhood, you know? They're really careful about stuff like that."

According to Toledo Police, two kids, including an 11-year-old boy, were outside playing Tuesday at about 4:30PM.

The boy tells police he spotted someone taking his bike, which was near the Toledo Heights Branch of the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library.

When he ran to his bicycle, the boy says the suspect pushed him off, then pulled a knife on him.

"You know, stealing a bike is one damn thing, but pulling a knife or something like that ain't no good at all. Ain't no good," says Paul Gomez.

According to police, the kids followed the guy until a Ford F-150 pulled up next to him, the suspect put the bike in the back of the pickup truck and rode off.

The boy was not physically hurt, but some neighbors say it hurts to hear about a crime like this.

"I feel sorry for the kid and hopefully, they can get that pervert off the streets," adds Ben Smith.
