A multi-million dollar gift to Toledo announced
A multi-million dollar gift to help strengthen local neighborhoods is expected Tuesday.
Promedica will announce a 10-year, $50 million program to help revitalize metro Toledo and surrounding communities.
More than half the investment is a gift from Carolee Ebied and her late husband Russell.
The Ebeid Promise is a community initiative to strengthen neighborhoods by focusing on health, education, jobs and family stability.
A significant portion of the investment will include a $28.5 million gift from the Ebeids. The rest of the funding will come from combined community fundraising and matched investments from Promedica.
The Ebeid neighborhood program will offer a full range of social and educational services with a specific focus on children and families. Promedica will also rename Toledo Children's Hospital to honor Mr. Ebeid.
Ebeid was a glass industry executive in Southeast Michigan who is known for his many generous donations in the Toledo community.
