MAUMEE, Ohio (WTVG) - The Andersons, Inc. has filed a Worker Adjustment and Retaining Notification (WARN) with the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services
In that document, the company outlines new information regarding the pending closure of its Mower Center, located at 1220 Ford St. in Maumee.
According to the document, the Mower Center facility will be sold. All 28 employee positions will be eliminated between Sept. 12 and Sept. 27, 2017.
The company released the following statement: "
The Andersons, Inc. has entered into an agreement to sell its former Maumee, Ohio retail complex located at the corner of Illinois and Ford Streets. The sale of this complex includes the former retail storefront, as well as the land and building housing The Andersons Mower Center and some adjacent parcels. After considering a variety of options for its Maumee retail facility, the company has elected to accept a third party offer to purchase the entire site which we feel will be more beneficial to the company and the community.
Considerations regarding the future operations of the Mower Center business remain on-going."
The Andersons closed its retail stores in the Toledo and Columbus areas earlier this year. The company first announced its intentions to exit the retail business and close the Mower Center in January, 2017
Those closures eliminated about 650 positions in the Toledo-area and around 400 in Columbus. Most were part-time workers.
The company continues its grain operations.
