TOLEDO (13abc Action News) - The Fiberglas Tower building in downtown Toledo sat empty for two decades. But that is about to change.

A major renovation is planned for the building.

Friday, the Eyde Company, based in Lansing, MI, told 13abc reporter Bill Hormann of its plans to turn the top eleven floors into 106 new apartments. The ground level will include retail and restaurant space. They're calling the development project, Tower on the Maumee.

Bill Hormann and 13abc's cameras were inside and spoke with developer/project manager Nick Eyde.

He reports the units will be one and two bedroom modern apartments and range from about 700 square feet to 1,265 square feet. Construction is set to begin early next week.

15 floors will be prepared for potential office space.

Cost of the project will be $30 million. Phase One (apartment and retail space) should be complete by the end of 2017.
