Burkett pleads not guilty to vehicular assault charges

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - The former business commissioner for Toledo has entered a plea of Not Guilty to charges of aggravated vehicular assault and vehicular assault.

Burkett appeared at an arraignment in Lucas County Court of Common Pleas on Tuesday. The charges stem from an incident back in May when police say he struck and severely injured a St. John's Jesuit student, Noah Tolson.

Burkett was initially charged with OVI, but that charge was dismissed in Maumee Municipal Court in June. He was then indicted on these new charges in the Court of Common Pleas.
