Cannaley Treehouse Village beginning to take shape
It seems like just yesterday, it was a concept on a piece of paper. Now, it's an idea coming to life: the largest treehouse village in the country.
"We go big. We think big. We plan big, and we execute," Scott Savage said, President of the Metroparks Commission. "We make promises, and we keep promises."
The Cannaley Treehouse Village is a 1.5 million dollar project entirely funded by private donors. It boasts several treeshouses and platforms you'll be able to rent, including a six-person, four-person and two two-person treehouses, three tent/hammock platforms for camping and a common treehouse with seating for up to 49 people.
"It's unbelievable," Billy Yark, Director of Group Marketing and E-commerce at Yark Automotive said. "You look at this place, and you think the most amazing thing is that it's built right into the forest. You look at all of the trees going through each of the buildings. It's remarkable."
You'll soon have the opportunity to sleep among nature without ever leaving Northwest Ohio. Despite the bouts of rainy weather, the project is right on track with an estimated opening date of Spring 2020.
But that doesn't come without support from community partners. On Tuesday, Yark Subaru announced it's donating 100 thousand dollars to Metroparks Toledo: 75 thousand of which will be used for the village. A spokesperson for the Metroparks said this will help them complete construction faster and give kids access to the village sooner.
"The Metroparks system is one of the best in the country," Yark added. "Being a part of something that promotes the environment, promotes the city, encourages kids to get outside, I think is a great thing."
