Carryout robber strikes clerk on the head with firearm

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - What police describe as an "aggressive" robber hit a carryout in Toledo Tuesday night. The crook struck the clerk on the head with his firearm before running off with money from the cash register.

It happened at the Stop and Shop on the 1200 block of West Sylvania Ave. around 10:30 Tuesday night.

Toledo police working to hunt down the man responsible for the robbery, and injury of a 33-year-old female store clerk.

According to the police report, "a black male dressed in all black with a black doo rag covering his face came into the store, pointed a small black handgun at her and demanded she open the cash register."

Police say the robber stole an unknown amount of money.

Then the suspect forced the clerk to take him into a back room with a safe and demanded she open it. She "was unable to open the safe causing the suspect to strike her on the left side of her head with his firearm while pushing her to the floor," the reports adds.

The clerk's condition is unknown.

The suspect fled on foot northbound on North Lockwood. Toledo police now on the lookout for the suspect to strike again and urging anyone with information to call the Crime Stopper hotline at (419) 255-1111.
