Christmas Tree Ship returns to National Museum of the Great Lakes

TOLEDO (WTVG) - The National Museum of the Great Lakes will welcome the arrival of Santa and a tugboat full of Christmas trees when the "Christmas Tree Ship" arrives at the museum Saturday, December 7.

The boat will dock behind the museum around noon, where people can pick up their pre-ordered trees and enjoy holiday snacks with Santa.

The experience helps honor and tell the story of the Rouse Simmons, a Great Lakes schooner built in 1868 serving the Chicago area and remembered as the "Christmas Tree Ship."

The museum will open its doors to the community between 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on the day of the boat's arrival.

Trees must be pre-ordered by 5 p.m. on December 3. There will be no walk-up sales. Also, trees can be purchased for families in need.

To purchase a tree for yourself or a family in need, visit the museum's website or call 419-214-5000.
