Cleanup begins after tree falls on Sylvania home

SYLVANIA, Ohio (WTVG) - Cleanup started Tuesday at a Sylvania home after a tree fell on it during Monday's storm.

A Sylvania man says he's lucky to be alive after this tree fell through his house and nearly on top of the bed he was sleeping in.

"I have never seen anything like this in my 27 years in the tree climbing business," said Shad Smith, owner of All Seasons Tree Care.

Crews with All Seasons Tree Care in Toledo received the call to clean up the mess. They used chainsaws and even a crane to remove the massive tree.

"It's a mess," Smith said. "Thank God no one was hurt."

The tree landed just feet away from were Steven Zwayers was sleeping.

"It was this very, extremely loud crack," Zwayers said. "it threw me out the of bed and I probably went a foot and a half into the air."

The ceiling also came crumbling down onto his bed, and part of the tree hit where his wife would have been sleeping.

"I was at work when he called me and told me to rush home," said Peggy Zwayers.

Zwayers said if his wife was home, she would have been crushed by the tree and is grateful the he walked away without a scratch.

"I was blessed," Zwayers said. "I had an angel on my shoulder for certain."
