UPDATE: Names released in fatal accidents in Erie, Seneca counties
The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported a pair of fatal crashes in the area Tuesday morning.
One person died as the result of a head-on crash at 6:13 a.m. on State Route 53, south of Fort Seneca. Richard Selvey, of Tiffin, went left of center while traveling northbound on SR 53. His car ran into a semi truck, and Selvey died from his injuries.
SR 53 was closed for the accident, but it has since reopened.
In another accident at 6:08 a.m. south of Sandusky, one person died after a crash involving a passenger vehicle and a garbage truck on US 250 at Fox Road.
Amber Schaffer, of Norwalk, was traveling northwest on US 250 when she drove left of center. Her vehicle struck the left side of a Republic Services garbage truck, causing her car to careen off the right side of the road. She died from her injuries.
US 250 was closed for approximately two hours but has since reopened.
