Daughter pleas for thief to return her mother's stolen ashes

TOLEDO (WTVG) - Callie Futey said her car was broken into and items on the back seat and the trunk were stolen. Among the items was a container with ashes in it. Futey said the container held her mother's ashes.

In 2006, she said her mother died when she was 9 years old. Her mother was never given a proper urn and Futey hoped to get one this Christmas.

She said she took the container, along with other items from her father's house and left them in her car while she was at her boy friend's home in Toledo.

Early Tuesday morning her car was broken into.

Futey doesn't care about everything else. She just wants the ashes back.

"Everyone has a mom that they came from. Everyone has a dad. Just think of it as if it was your mom or your dad," said Futey. "What would you do? Bring it back. It's the right thing to do if you're any kind of human being. Just bring it back."

Surveillance cameras and a motion sensor didn't stop the thief from breaking into the car.

Futey said she filed a police report. She mainly hopes the person who stole the container with her mother's ashes will return it to the Toledo Police Department.
