The annual Dragon Boat Festival is no more. Organizers for the summertime event have decided to pack up the paddles and long boats and go a different route in their efforts to raise money for kids in public education.
Leaders with Partners in Education have decided they will no longer host the race, citing concerns about the expense of the event which has also run into issues with algal blooms, weather, and construction. A construction issue caused the race to be cancelled in 2018.
The festival has historically drawn large crowds in the more than 10 years of its existence and the event has raised thousands of dollars in support of students at Toledo Public Schools.
The organization says they have found better ways to help students.
