Dundee Police host Shop with a Cop

DUNDEE, Mich (WTVG) - Aside from Christmas morning, Thursday was one of the best nights of the year for 10 deserving kids in Dundee.

"[We] eat cookies, see Santa, see Rudolph and see the elves," Brooke Summers, 8, said.

The highlight: the chance to shop with a $100 gift card. Along for the ride was the Dundee Police Department. It was all part of the annual Shop with Cop program.

"We have a great relationship with the town and we like to do this," Sgt. Randy Sehl, Dundee PD, said.

The kids could pick out whatever they wanted, with a little help of course.

"I think the community sees us all the time in one light and that's law and traffic enforcement," Chief Tim Garbo, Dundee PD said. "But with this, they can see the lighter side of officers."

The department works with the school district to find the village's most deserving families.

"I know it's a really big deal and I know he's really excited about it," Mandy Summers said of the experience.

All of the gift cards were purchased with funds raised at an annual summer golf outing.
