Early Voting Open For Benton-Carroll-Salem School District
Early Voting is underway for an emergency levy for the Benton-Carroll-Salem Local School District. The district is asking voters to approve a 3.9 mill property tax that will last for 5 years. The measure would raise about $1.5 million dollars in an effort to replace an unprecedented loss of $4.6 million dollar overnight loss as a result of the devaluation of Davis Besse. The levy would cost the homeowner of a $100 thousand dollar house $136 dollars per year.
The levy will be on the August 6th ballot, but residents can cast early votes at the Ottawa County Board of Elections. The district administration says it's already made as many staffing and programming cuts as it can. The next step would be cutting back to the point where you'd have 50 kids per classroom and that's just not feasible
