Local events celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. legacy

(TOLEDO) - Monday is the federal holiday marking the life of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. which will be recognized with local events throughout the community and nation.

The 26th annual MLK Scholarship Breakfast presented by Alpha Xi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha was presented Saturday at the Pinnacle in Maumee.

The MLK 2018 Unity Celebration will be held on Monday at the University of Toledo Savage Arena. The Unity Celebration features speakers, music and performances honoring Dr. King followed by a free lunch. Recipients of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship and the Africa-American Leadership Council of United Way Scholarship Awards will be recognized. 13abc's Kristian Brown will co-host the event.

Bishop Daniel E. Thomas celebrates Mass for Promoting Harmony Monday afternoon at 4:00pm at St. Patrick Historic Parish at 130 Avondale Avenue in Toledo. A highlight will be the presentation of Drum Major Awards given to two community leaders who have supported Dr. King's call to service, peace, justice and racial equality.
