FREMONT, Ohio (WTVG) Fremont police are investigating the deadly shooting of a dog, right next to an elementary school.
Emily Vandersluis, the owner, says her 4 year old coonhound named Ava was playing in the backyard when she heard a pop.
She says the dog was shot and died before she could get her to the veterinarian's office.
"My animals are my babies, and it feels like someone just took my heart out."
The veterinarian believes Ava was shot with a pellet gun, and the pellet somehow managed to hit her aorta.
Fremont police say there have been no complaints about the dog or the home.
They've also had no reports of any other animals being shot.
The family thinks it may have been a neighbor that shot the dog, upset over barking.
