TOLEDO (WTVG) -- A huge new theater designed to entertain and inspire is officially under construction.
The Imagination Station has broken ground on the Keybank Discovery Theater.
Starting in June of 2020, when you visit the Imagination Station, the entrance along Summit St. will look dramatically different.
For starters, the enclosed elevated walkway connecting to the parking lot on the opposite side of the street will be gone.
So will the round turret with the blue roof, originally constructed when the building was Portside Entertainment Complex.
In their place will stand the Keybank Discovery Center.
"It's going to inspire a whole bunch of young kids in science and technology, and that's really, really important," explains Jim Hoffman, President of Keybank.
Once it's finished, the $10M project will include a state-of-the-art movie theater with a 58-foot screen and 280 seats.
"I think it's going to be transformational for the science center and the way that we deliver science education," said Lori Hauser, C.E.O. of The Imagination Station.
"We have a world class facility behind us here already and it's going to get even better with this theater," adds Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz.
The Imagination Station will remain open during construction of the Keybank Discovery Theater.
The ribbon is set to be cut on the science center's biggest expansion ever in June 2020.
