House explodes near Port Clinton

TOLEDO (13abc Action News) - Authorities say a house has exploded in Port Clinton. The home is located on East Harbor Road.

Witnesses say the explosion shook homes and buildings even a mile away.

Sheriff's deputies confirmed that two people were injured in the blast. A man and a woman were taken by air ambulance to a Toledo Hospital.

Authorities say the man was buried in rubble and the woman was covered in burns.

In addition neighboring buildings were impacted. The debris field goes at least 100 yards past the house. Windows in all neighboring houses were broken from the concussion of the blast according our reporter on the scene. Houses a quarter of a mile away were pushed up to a foot off of their concrete foundations.

Firefighters say the main home is a total loss. The house next-door caught on fire. Nearby powerlines next to the house had to be repaired because the blast melted them. They were reportedly sparking as firefighters dug the male victim out. The cat in the house died as a result of the blast.

In addition we're told a TV repair shop down the street lost much of its inventory. TV sets fell off the wall as the blast shook the store.
