MAUMEE, Ohio (WTVG) - A deep freeze followed by a quick thaw has caused ice jams along the Maumee River, flooding the river and surrounding roads.
River Road has been closed down as have the entrances to Side Cut Metroparks. According to the Metroparks officially Twitter account, those ice jams have caused dams in the river, forcing waters up out of the riverbanks and onto the roads.
According to Scott Carpenter with Metroparks, that flooding has not directly affected the park yet, but the road has been forced to close a number of times this week due to similar flooding. The park had removed a number of benches ahead of the winter weather in anticipation of the ice jams.
