In Touch w/Jeff Smith - Advance Care Planning
National Healthcare Decisions Day (NHDD) was earlier this month, and it marked a massive effort to highlight the importance of advance healthcare decision making or Advance Care Planning (ACP).
ACP conversations are not only for end-of-life decision-making but for any medical crisis in which a person cannot speak for themselves and cannot be involved in decision-making. For some people, this may mean aggressive care and for others it may mean focusing on their comfort and managing their pain. Healthcare providers are encouraging people to discuss their wishes and document them in a living will and healthcare power of attorney documents.
The conversations are never easy, but there is a time and a place and a number of options for achieving that goal. We've included a number of links to websites related to this topic.
