Local World War II veteran remembers his fallen friends

MAUMEE (WTVG) - George Snyder of Maumee was drafted in the Army after high school. He served in Italy on the front lines for a couple of years during World War II.

George was a gunner in a mortar squad. As you can imagine, it is still tough for George to talk about his time on the battlefield. He says many of his fellow soldiers did not make it home. George was captured by the enemy and held captive for 19 days, but managed to escape.

George was awarded multiple medals for his service. He turns 97 this August.
