Local summer program teaches life skills to teens with disabilities

TOLEDO (WTVG) - The Next Steps Summer Program helps get teenagers with disabilities ready for college, living independently and the workforce. It is a program of The Ability Center.

During the five-week program, the students live on campus at The University of Toledo and work at a job site. Next Steps is in its fourth year.

19-year-old Emily Strzelecki is spending part of her summer working in the Office of Accessibility at Lourdes University. She has epilepsy.
Her goals are to one day live independently and earn money for herself. Emily says the programs at The Ability Center have been a tremendous help.

The Ability Center is looking for businesses to take part in the program next year. If you are interested, we've posted a link.

Next Steps is one of the local programs that will benefit from this year's Marathon Classic.
