Lucas County Pit Crew expands its rescue work to include cats
The Lucas County Pit Crew has been caring for abandoned and abused dogs for the last ten years. The rescue has now expanded its work to include cats.
The new program is called the Lucas County Kitty Krew. About 200 cats and kittens are being cared for in foster homes by volunteers.
Jean Keating is the Executive Director. She says the expansion of the rescue is just one more step toward making sure all the dogs and cats in our community have homes.
Just like the dogs in the program, many of the cats have special medical needs. Helena is a blind kitten who was rescued by a Good Samaritan. She had both her eyes removed because of severe eye infections. Defiance is a cat that was also found by a Good Samaritan. She was dumped along a highway with serious skin infections.
Taking care of all the animals takes a lot of time and money. If you would like to adopt one of the animals or make a donation, we've posted a link.
