Lucas County Sheriff John Tharp has been chosen by Governor Dewine to be on a new advisory council called Recovery Ohio. The council will advise the Governor's office on critical matters concerning mental illness and substance abuse, prevention, treatment and recovery support services in Ohio.

Tharp is the only law enforcement officer on the council and says he will work with state leaders to tackle the opiate and heroin epidemic in the state. Tharp has gained national attention for his creation of a Drug Abuse Response Team known as DART. Other counties around the state have already implemented similar programs in their areas.
