CANTON, Ohio (WTVG) - A pilot from the 180th Fighter Wing killed in action during a combat mission will be honored when the MAPS Air Museum dedicates a F-16 fighter jet in his honor.
Lt. Col. Kevin "Sonny" Sonnenberg was killed during a June 2007 mission while serving in Iraq.
The museum in Canton, Ohio, will dedicate the fighter jet during a November 9 ceremony. The event will include remarks from former 180th Fighter Wing Commander Maj. Gen. Steven Nordhaus, along with family and friends of Sonnenberg.
While the event is sold out, the museum will remain open until 4 p.m. before the ceremony to offer a chance for visitors to see an active F-16 fighter jet assigned to the 180th Fighter Wing. The jet is expected to arrive at the museum around 10 a.m., November 9.
