Maumee police arrest teen murder suspect who fled to our area from KY

MAUMEE, Ohio (WTVG) - This is a picture of Kentucky murder victim Richard Harper.

Sunday, Maumee police arrested a teen accused of shooting and killing Harper at a bus stop in January.

The teen murder suspect fled to our area. Investigators tell 13abc the 17-year-old male suspect is from Louisville, Kentucky.

Maumee police say they received a call from Louisville detectives about five days ago about the murder of 18-year-old Richard Harper.

They had information the person who allegedly shot Harper was staying with an uncle at Lake View Shores Apartments on Key Street in Maumee.

Detectives put an unmarked police unit outside the apartment complex.

Saturday night around 9:30 officers say the 17-year-old suspect came out of the apartment.

They followed him, called for backup and he was arrested.

Louisville police will not release a motive. They drove to Maumee, obtained a search warrant and tell 13abc they found evidence in the uncle's apartment.

Maumee police booked the teen in the Lucas County Juvenile Justice Center on an unruly charge with a holder for murder.

Once the teen suspect faces a judge in Lucas County he'll go back to Kentucky.

The teen will likely face a Lucas County judge in juvenile court Monday. The suspect's name is being withheld due to his age.
