Michigan state police investigate child abuse case, suicide

MONROE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WTVG) - Michigan state police are investigating a reported case of child abuse and subsequent suicide in Monroe County.

According to authorities, an unresponsive three-month-old infant was taken from the Live, Laugh and Learn Daycare in Monroe Township to ProMedica Children's Hospital in Toledo on Tuesday, Feb. 5. Investigators later determined the owner of the daycare was caring for the child when the infant suffered significant brain trauma.

Michigan state police launched a criminal child abuse investigation. Two days later, on Thursday, Feb. 7, police say the owner was found dead in Lasalle Township after suffering a self-inflicted injury.
