Flames and smoke brought the westbound lanes of the Ohio Turnpike to a standstill overnight after a semi hauling a trailer full of milk caught fire.

It happened near exit 59, not far from Reynolds Rd. at about 12:30AM Saturday.

Maumee firefighters say one of the the tires on the trailer caught fire and the flames spread to the rest of the vehicle.

The driver was able to detach the trailer and safely escape the fire.

Firefighters could be seen hosing down the flaming trailer on the shoulder of the interstate as smoke and steam continued to billow into the night sky.

No one was hurt, but the westbound lanes of I-80/90 were closed for several hours. They were reopened by 5:00AM.
