PUT-IN-BAY, Ohio (WTVG) -- They’re gonna need a bigger boat.

Miller Ferry is getting ready to add a 5th vessel to its fleet, with a price tag of roughly $7M.

It would be the first new ship for the transportation service since 1997.

Right now, plans are almost finished and Miller Ferry is about to start taking bids.

Once complete, the new ship is expected to have state-of-the-art navigation systems and heated and air conditioned passenger cabins on both levels.

“Cutting edge," describes Jake Market, vice president of resources for Miller Boat line. "You know, our oldest boat is going to be 35 years old this year. So, it’s going to be drastically smarter than that boat, so we’re looking forward to a lot of those improvements.”

“You know, we’ve been doing this for a long time," said Bill Market, President and co-owner of Miller Ferry. "We’ve have a pretty good idea of what we want in place already. They’ve worked out great for us. We’ve got a great, as I call, a mouse trap in place. We’re just trying to build a slightly better mousetrap.”

The new ship should be ready to launch by Memorial Day 2019.
