Lane closures, ramp closures, and orange barrels. Drivers near downtown Toledo have been dealing with slow-downs since 2017, with major lane closures in place since late-2018. And this weekend, more changes are coming.

The changes start this evening at 8:00, with traffic reduced to one lane in each direction on I-75 between Miami Street and the Anthony Wayne Trail. That traffic pattern will be in place through Monday.

Also starting this evening, northbound ramps to and from South Avenue will be closed through Saturday afternoon.

During this time, ODOT workers will be working to shift the lanes of traffic onto new pavement. Once this change is in place, ODOT reports that the ramp from NB I-75 to Collingwood/Erie Street will be back open, but workers will still be installing traffic signals there through mid-November. Because of this, drivers should expect shifting traffic patterns there for a couple of more weeks.

Once traffic is switched to the northbound I-75 lanes, crews will begin demolition of the southbound I-75 lanes. There may be lane restrictions on Broadway St. under I-75 during that work.

As for more work on the project, ODOT reports in a press release:

"The bi-directional traffic pattern on the northbound I-75 lanes is anticipated to be complete by late summer 2020. After that, the construction focus of the northern section of the mega I-75 project will shift from the area between South Ave. (Exit 200) and Anthony Wayne Tr. (Exit 201B) to the area between Anthony Wayne Tr. (Exit 201B) and Dorr St. When this happens in late summer 2020, the ramps from the Anthony Wayne Tr. to I-75 in either direction will close through spring 2022, and the outbound Anthony Wayne Tr. will be reduced to one lane under I-75."

As for the southern portion of the project, ODOT reports that traffic pattern shifts will be announced on the stretch of I-75 between Buck and Wales Rd. That traffic is currently on the southbound side of the expressway, and will be shifted to the newly-constructed northbound side. Once that happens, the ramp from Buck Rd. to northbound I-75 will reopen. Again, that shift will be announced.

ODOT also reports that progress is still being made on the Dorr St. Bridge over I-75, and is on track to reopen in late November. Once that bridge reopens, ODOT workers will begin reconstruction work on the Nebraska Ave. Bridge.
