Toledo Police Lt. Dan Gerken said the department has recorded 10 murders so far in 2017. He said six are unsolved and four have been solved.

Shanda Striker said, "I'm definitely one of them. I was the mother of that boy."

Striker's middle child, DeMajio Striker, 23, was shot killed in Toledo. DeMajio's body was located on the 200 block of Austin Street on February 8, 2017. TPD has not located the killer.

On Tuesday, Striker told 13abc about her child growing up.

"He we has always a risk taker. . . He just lightened up my life," said Striker.

DeMajio was a transgender female. Striker believes the sexuality of the 23-year-old was the reason why DeMajio was killed.

"It is definitely a hate crime," said Striker.

Lt. Gerken has been following this case. However, when people know something and don't speak up his job becomes more difficult.

"It helps us tie everything together. It's very important that the community helps us," said Lt. Gerken. "A lot of times the community knows more than we do."

TPD is relying on tips to help bring closure to a mother missing her child.

"I want to know him and I want to see him and I want to look in their face and tell them it's okay. I forgive you, but know that you got judgment day coming towards you," added Striker.
