New information in the case of a dead baby found in a car
Toledo Police are asking for the public's help in the case of a decomposed baby found in a car.
The less than two-month-old baby is a white male. It was found in an old rundown car at a house on the 2400 block of Vaness.
"This was not a situation where this was a new born child straight out the womb. Sometimes you hear those stories where a baby was discarded--that's not the situation in this case. This baby had been alive for a while. Somebody knows who this child is," said Toledo Police Lt. Joe Heffernan.
Last week a man found the decomposed baby in his old rundown Mustang. The car was parked next to his house for years.
"It was in the yard. The owner noticed a foul odor from the vehicle," said Lt. Heffernan.
The coroner has not released the cause of death .
"Right now we don't have any solid leads on who the parents of the child might be," said Lt. Heffernan.
Now police are asking for your help. They say it's possible you may know the baby.
"Somebody all of a sudden realizes it's somebody they know. They haven't seen the child in awhile that might be a good lead for us also," said Lt. Heffernan.
If detectives don't get any leads.
"If we have to start going down birth records and things like that. It's a very laborious process. We will need some DNA evidence to come back before we can do that."
Police are hoping the parents or guardian of the baby comes forward.
