New restaurant opens for preview at The Docks, supports Toledo non-profit
Energy, excitement and love of the city: Those are the ingredients that Pier 7's owner believes are the recipe to success for his new restaurant at The Docks in east Toledo.
"We're going to bring excitement down to the docks and we want to have a good time doing it," said owner Stephen MacMillan.
Pier 7 opened for a preview over the weekend as a way to showcase what it has to offer to the community.
"It looks fun. It's a great location," said customer Cal Tuttle. "We're glad that it's back in business."
The restaurant even partnered with Mobile Meals of Toledo by giving all money raised to the non-profit.
"They've been in the community for about 50 years now, and I believe they have a great cause and we just want to help to that," said MacMillan.
MacMillan says he and his partners started looking at the property soon after Forrester's on the River abruptly closed back in December of 2015.
His restaurant is the building's fourth tenant in less than 10 years.
"I grew up in Toledo," said MacMillan. "I know this is a great location and when it came available, and I was able to do so, I wanted to be a part of it."
With a focus on major re-development happening across the river in downtown, MacMillan is optimistic about the restaurant's future and so are customers.
"We went over to the concert last night by boat--that was fantastic," said Tuttle." "It's great to see this. We'll definitely come back."
The preview benefit for Mobile Means of Toledo runs again Sunday from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. We have a link to tickets in the sidebar of this story.
Pier 7 will officially open to the public in about two weeks.
