TOLEDO (WTVG) - In Toledo's Old South End, Linda Parra sees first hand the daily struggles that many people face.

"You see a lot of walkers in this area, and those are families that don't have transportation and probably jobs, and they're just trying to make it," Parra said.
For more than 10 years now her non-profit Nuestra Gente Community Projects has worked to give those in need a hand up.
"Being a neighbor in this area we want to help the families that are around our church building and our radio station," Parra said.
To continue that mission Parra and her team are taking on a new challenge this year, helping 25 families put a Thanksgiving meal on the table.
"The mission is to bring the Thanksgiving meal to those families that are struggling," she said.
To make it all happen Parra is reaching out the community and asking for items like turkeys, non-perishable sides and drinks. People can also help out by simply enjoying a meal themselves through a fundraiser at La Fiesta Mexican restaurant in Maumee next Wednesday.
"When you go to the restaurant to eat, and you invite friends and everything, come that day when your friends and your family and support our turkey baskets for 25 families," Parra said.
Whether stopping out or making a donation, Parra says every little bit helps so those in need can enjoy a Thanksgiving meal.
Nuestra Gente's fundraiser is set for 5:30 p.m. November 20 at La Fiesta off Reynolds in Maumee. A $20 donation gets you a plate of food and soft drink. Money from the night will go towards putting together meal baskets for those in need.
