Numerous crashes during Thursday morning commute

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - Law enforcement and first responders have their hands full this Thursday morning in Lucas and Wood Counties.

Multiple calls have come in for drivers hitting guardrails or spinning out on the expressways.

First responders are on scene of a serious crash in Wood County at the intersection of Defiance Pike and Otsego Pike. Dispatchers tell 13abc that a woman was reportedly thrown from a vehicle in the crash. Crews on scene say that two people were taken to the hospital via air ambulance. Drivers should avoid that area.

Elsewhere, drivers saw slow-downs on I-75 near downtown Toledo, I-475 near Maumee, and I-75 near North Baltimore, all crashes likely caused by slick roads.

Drivers should plan extra time for their morning commute after several inches of snow fell overnight, creating slushy conditions on the roads, especially on side streets. Some of the biggest concerns for drivers are at major intersections, exit/entrance ramps and overpasses.

Another major crash on NB I-75 near Berdan slowed traffic. That crash has been cleared, and speeds are recovering.
