Updated: Lakeshore flooding prompts evacuations, road closures

Voluntary evacuations have been issued for homes along Lake Erie in Frenchtown Township, Luna Pier and Erie, Michigan.

Flooding along the shore began Friday due to strong winds. It's expected to continue for several hours.

In Ottawa County, Route 2 between 590 and 358 closed on Friday from the Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge to Camp Perry. State Route 53 in Catawba is also closed. Main Street in Marblehead is closed as well.

Several Erie County highways were submerged including First TS. at Farwell St., First at Wildman St., F Street near the Water Plant and Pipe Creek Wildlife area. Also, Second St. at Wildman St., Farwell at Third St., Cedar Point Road, Anderson, Lockwood and Dutch Lane.

Bayview Yacht Club also has water in its parking lot. 13abc has been told Allen Cove in Luna Pier is experiencing flooding and roads near the North Cape Yacht Club experienced high water.

Port Clinton police say Madison Street and North Jefferson Street near Perry Street are experiencing high water conditions.

High water and strong winds prompted officials to close Cedar Point Road in Sandusky until further notice. The road closure stretches from the 400 block to the 600 block.

The Department of Public Works asked motorists to "please plan your route around the closure and we ask residents who reside in this area to use extreme caution when traveling the roadway."

Miller Ferry has suspended service due to strong winds, high water and dock conditions.
