FINDLAY (WTVG) - The 13-star flag is more than 200 years old. It has been owned by Jim Mooney's family for more than a century. The family has worked hard to make sure it is preserved for generations to come.
Mooney says his family bought a home in the Boston area in 1906, and the flag was one of the items that came with it. The home was bought from an old Boston family that had fought in The Revolutionary War.
It is one of the rarest American flags in existence. Mooney says it is also one of the few that has been verified by textile experts. The experts say the flag was hand-spun and hand-woven.
The flag will be on display at the Hancock Historical Museum through July 5th. The museum's Executive Director Sarah Sisser says the display is like the trifecta of patriotism, because it is in the Flag City on Flag Day, as well as the 4th of July.
