The Ohio Supreme Court will not interject and allow operations to restart at a controversial Ottawa county quarry.

Owners of the Benton Township quarry were taking waste product from the Toledo water treatment plant and putting that spent lime in the quarry.

Nearby resident worried about those materials getting into their well water.

The township denied a zoning permit for the dumping.

Quarry owners asked the Ohio Supreme Court to step in saying this was a state permit issue not a local issue.

The court disagreed in a ruling Thursday. Justices said the zoning and any nuisance complaints can be ruled on by the Ottawa County judge.

So as of right now the quarry operations will not be restarting.
