TFRD calls off search, no evidence of downed aircraft found in Ottawa River
Toledo Fire & Rescue have called off the search of the Ottawa River near Point Place after an early Monday emergency call said a plane had crashed into the river.
Multiple agencies responded to a 911 call on a report of a small aircraft that had gone down in the river in Point Place.
The call came in around 2:16 a.m. for the aircraft, which was reported to go down near 287th St. east of Suder Ave.
TFRD, Washington Township Fire & Rescue, and the U.S. Coast Guard conducted an extensive search of the area, according to a press release from TFRD, including the use of side sonar scanner.
Calm waters with depths of approximately 3-5 feet allowed crews to search a large area from where the aircraft was thought to have gone down. The search was suspended at approximately 4:30 a.m. after no evidence of debris or oil slick was found.
No firefighter or civilian injuries have been reported.
