Person shot in Merle home dies

TOLEDO (WTVG) - The 18-year-old shot in a home on Merle Rd. has died, Toledo Police have confirmed.

Andrew Wheeler was shot just after 4 p.m. on February 16 in the 6100 block of Merle, north of Alexis Road near the Ohio/Michigan state line.

Now, TPD will be working with the coroner and prosecutor's office to determine if and what charges will be filed.

According to a police lieutenant on scene, Wheeler was shot in the upper torso and rushed to an area hospital.

It's unclear whether the victim lived in the home or not.

Investigators told 13abc there was an additional person believed to have been in the home at the time of the shooting and took off before police arrived. Police are looking for that person, but their involvement in the shooting is unclear.

Police officers on the scene said they do not want anyone nearby to panic. They do not believe there is any danger to neighbors.

"We don’t want to panic any of the surrounding community members, so we have no cause to believe that there’s any harm or alarm or danger to anyone out and about," Toledo Police Lt. Michael Smith said.
