Personal Story of Human Trafficking And New Laws of Protection

Senator Sherrod Brown is introducing bipartisan legislation to protect the rights of those exploited by coercive trafficking. The PROTECT Act specifically addressed the use of drugs to facilitate human trafficking and protect vulnerable victims of trafficking.

Brown introduced the proposal at a news conference today along with Lucas County Sheriff John Tharp and Professor Celia Williamson from the UT Human Trafficking Coalition. If it's passed into law it would protect victims of human trafficking from prosecution if drugs were used to control and trap them in the sex trade. It would also make tougher penalties for those who sell these victims for profit using drugs to control them.
